Celebrex® (Celecoxib) belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which work by blocking the production of certain natural substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation.
Celebrex® (Celecoxib) is a selective COX-2 inhibitor that selectively inhibits the enzyme that produces prostaglandins: prostaglandin H2 and prostaglandin E2 produced by the stomach and intestines, respectively. Celebrex® (Celecoxib) is the only NSAID approved by the FDA to reduce pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis patients. The FDA approved Celebrex® (Celecoxib) has been shown to improve the function of the joints in patients with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Do not take Celebrex® (Celecoxib) if you are taking oral medications for pain, inflammation or swelling in the joints, because Celebrex® (Celecoxib) may cause side effects such as joint pain, swelling or stiffness, joint pain, muscle pain, cramps, or difficulty breathing. If you are taking Celebrex® (Celecoxib) to treat osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, inform your doctor of all the medications you are currently taking. If you are taking other NSAIDs to treat pain or inflammation, inform your doctor of the medications you are currently taking.
